Trauma dog brings gentle paw to Calgary Police Service

Victims of crime and trauma, and witnesses in need of support, have a new police ally.

On Monday, the CPS will introduce Hawk, a three-year-old Labrador Retriever, the service’s first trauma dog.

Hawk, and his mild manner, will provide comfort to those who have had witnessed a crime or experienced a traumatic incident.

The black Lab has been a part of the police service since October and has assisted victims of various ages, including high-risk youth, during police investigations.

Hawk was raised and trained by the Pacific Assistance Dog Society (PADS) in Burnaby, B.C., and is Canada’s third police trauma dog. The Delta Police Service and Camrose Police Service have added trauma dogs to their respective forces.
