Temporary curbs, speed feedback signs set up around Lethbridge

Lethbridge motorists may have noticed more traffic features on their drives.

It’s part of the city’s new campaign to curb speeding.

Nine temporary curbs and 15 speed feedback signs have been set up around Lethbridge.

The curbs narrow the roadway around crosswalks, forcing drivers to slow down.

If the temporary curbs are effective, the city will consider installing permanent curbs at the sites.

The city will monitor traffic at each location to see how effective the new measures are.

“We are hoping that by implementing more and more recommendations from the Transportation Safety Plan, we are able to achieve our Vision Zero,” said Ahmed Ali, traffic engineer and transportation planner.

“Vision Zero for the City of Lethbridge is achieving zero fatalities and injuries—major injuries, primarily—from the road collisions in 2040.”

The city estimates speed plays a factor in about 25 per cent of collisions and 50 per cent happen at intersections.
