Suspect in custody following carjacking in southeast Calgary

Police have a suspect in custody after a violent carjacking that took place Friday night in southeast Calgary.

Calgary police are investigating a violent carjacking in the southeast community of Applewood Park.

It happened on Friday around 8:30 p.m.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and found a man they say had been assaulted and had his vehicle stolen.

He had not been shot, police say.

Police, with the help of HAWCS, tracked a suspect who they say dumped the vehicle in Pineridge.

After a short foot chase, police say the suspect was arrested.

Charges against the suspect are pending.
