Scattered showers and thunderstorms likely over the next few days

Nighttime thunderstorms expected for Calgary. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Wednesday will prove to be very similar to Tuesday with seasonal temperatures, a mix of sun and cloud, and some light and scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout central and southern Alberta.

This synoptic setup will continue for most of the next week, with slight variations in terms of available atmospheric instability (which translates to storm intensity) and some brief drops in daily highs.

Areas west of Calgary and near Red Deer will see the first pockets of rain on Wednesday with nocturnal thunderstorms possible in a line tracking west to east along the QEII as far south as Calgary.

Thursday could include more severe thunderstorms across the province with areas of heavy rain and stronger winds likely.

The long weekend should be fairly uneventful with daily highs hovering around a seasonal average of 16 C in Calgary and that same mix of sun, cloud and periods of scattered showers.
