Living Spirit School celebrates official opening

Dionne, a Grade 9 student at Living Spirit School celebrated the official opening Friday in Calgary.

Living Spirit School celebrated its official opening Friday with a blessing ceremony.

Students were welcomed into the school in February.

Friday’s ceremony was meant to bless the new facility and its community.

It also recognizes the contributions of all those made it a reality.

The school teaches kids in Kindergarten to Grade 9.

Graduating students were soaking up parts of the new facility while they could.

“The booths upstairs (is my favourite spot),” said Dionne, a Grade 9 student, “because it’s like the first time have had an open space for students to just lounge and to socialize, even work outside with each other, meet up with other people.”

Khrstel, another Grade 9 student, had a surprising favourite place.

“Probably the library,” Khrstel said. “It’s just like a calming space, it’s nice and quiet and it’s just got some beautiful lighting.”

Prior to moving in, the more than 400 students were split between two other schools, with K to Grade 6 students at one and junior high students at another.

The school is located in southeast Calgary.
