Lethbridge residents flock outside as warm weather hits

Spring weather has officially hit Lethbridge and southern Alberta, and with that warm weather, plenty of people are outside enjoying the sun.

While it’s been open for about two months Paradise Canyon is finally seeing prime golf weather.

With blue sky and warm weather golfers are hitting the links in droves.

“Tee times fill up pretty quick. We have two weeks in advance booking and non-members have, unlimited time to book outside of the member window. And we’re already seeing a lot of people from all over BC, Saskatchewan, northern Alberta booking their summer tee time. So, we’re excited for a busy, busy year. They’re ready to go and so far, its a good start,” said Paradise Canyon head professional, Jae Maegaard.

Cooler weather later into the spring had the course a little behind where staff would like to see it.

But with plenty of warm weather on the horizon, the course is getting close to optimal conditions.

“The month of April definitely felt like March for most of it, just with the weather not really turning for us, or for anybody, really, in the area in southern Alberta,” said Maegaard. “But now we’ve got some nice heat on the forecast, and most of our members are out there paid.”

Patio season underway

It’s not just outdoor activities that are seeing a boost from the nice weather.

Outdoor patios are popping up all over the city.

The Canadian Brewhouse is happy to finally have its rooftop patio open.

“We have the best patio in town,” said Canadian Brewhouse Lethbridge assistant general manager, Samantha Zilke. “We have our rooftop heaters, and we also have our misters for those hot days, and also the heaters for the cool nights.

“We are so excited to have it open,” Zilke added. “We have all of our umbrellas up. People are really enjoying the nice weather that we’ve had this past weekend.”

The patio has been a big boost to business already.

Staff have noticed an influx of customers coming in asking about the patio.

With the NHL playoffs in full swing as well, it’s kept the Canadian Brewhouse busy.

“(We) always try to have our patio open any time it’s above ten degrees,” said Zilke. “We got to enjoy the summer that we have.

“It’s not long,” she said, “but we always have a lot of people come and enjoy cool drinks. We have the most refreshing summer drinks,”

Lethbridge is expected to see daily highs of 20 degrees or higher through Sunday.
