Lethbridge Police Service, victim support services receive sacred eagle feathers

The Lethbridge Police Service has been gifted two sacred eagle feathers. One for the police service and one for victim support services.

The Lethbridge Police Service has been gifted two sacred eagle feathers.

The feathers will be used for the swearing of oaths, ceremonies and during court testimonies to honour Indigenous culture, beliefs and traditions.

One of the feathers will stay with the police service, while the other will be used by the victim support services team.

The feathers were brought forward by Staff Sgt. Ashlin Snowdon.

“As a investigator, I think it’s incredibly important that we have a buy-in and engagement from all members of our community because they’re crucial when it comes to helping us solve not only community problems, but all crimes that occur,” said Snowdon.

“And so through my experience and time I’ve spent in the criminal investigation section, I identified this as a potential gap that we could fill and help meet our values.”

In October, the School of Justice Studies at Lethbridge Polytechnic was gifted an eagle feather to be used in practice trial proceedings happening in the polytechnic’s courtroom.
