As the weather warms up, the Lethbridge Police Service has begun its traffic enforcement project targeting high-risk driving, vehicle noise and other illegal behaviours.

Police say during the first day of the initiative, officers arrested one impaired driver and one suspended driver and issued 46 tickets.

The project was first launched in 2022 in an effort to address nuisance driving behaviours in the city.

Police will monitor areas throughout the city where residents have reported concerns.

“We’re going to have zero tolerance for vehicles that are caught speeding, stunting—any kind of reckless behaviour in that manner,” said Sgt. Tony Ramotowski of the Lethbridge Police Service traffic unit.

“We’ve had a lot of citizen concerns lately, mostly on Mayor Magrath, Metis Trail, Scenic Drive, so as our initiative moves forward, we’re going to focus on those areas.”

The project will continue through the summer.
