Hurricanes look to future at WHL Prospects and U.S. Priority Drafts

The playing part of their season is over but the Lethbridge Hurricanes were busy Thursday looking to the future.

The team added talent through the WHL Prospects and U.S. Priority Drafts.

Before they made any picks, the Hurricanes lost Cam Norrie to the Penticton Vees in the expansion draft.

The undrafted rookie appeared in 56 games for the Hurricanes during the 2024-25 season.

Lethbridge started the Prospects Draft off by selecting Liam McFadden 54th overall from the OHA Edmonton U15 prep team.

After a trade with the Red Deer Rebels, the Canes nabbed Luka Samu from the Northern Alberta Extreme at 79.

With the 87th pick, the Hurricanes grabbed forward Graham Gard from the Winnipeg Thrashers U15.

In the U.S. Priority Draft, Lethbridge picked Cash Whitmore from the Colorado Thunderbirds AAA at 23.

For pick 24, they chose Drew Kortan from the Minnesota Blue Ox U14.

The club also selected goalie Cohen Kuntz (271), forward Beau Anholt (248), defenceman Nixon Wright (202), forward Jase Brodrick (179), defenceman Jake Beaty (156), and forward Nixon Arcand-Vandale (133).
