Hiring fair for southwest seniors’ community draws hundreds, CPS crowd control

Saturday’s hiring fair for Swan Evergreen Village, an assisted living facility set to open in mid-October in the southwest community of Evergreen, attracted far more applicants than organizers were expecting.

The event, scheduled to run from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., had prospective employees lining up outside the building by 7:00 a.m.

An expected 150 employees will be hired before the seniors move into the 196 suite facility in the next few weeks. The available positions range from servers, kitchen staff and housekeepers to health care professionals.

During Saturday’s job fair, members of the Calgary Police Service were called to the facility to ensure the crowd of more than 1,000 applicants remained orderly.

The hiring fair continues Sunday.
