Free to a good home: Annual Reuse Rendezvous runs in Lethbridge this weekend

Those looking at spring cleaning this weekend can put unwanted items on their front lawn for the annual Reuse Rendezvous.

Gently used items can be placed outside, in front of your home, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

If you do, you’re asked to put out a “free” sign.

The program started back in 2011, with hundreds of kilograms being diverted from the landfill each time.

Environment Lethbridge says, on average, more than 400 households sign up to take part in the event.

“It’s about making sure items that still have some use and still have some life left in them don’t end up in the landfill,” said Kathleen Sheppard, Environment Lethbridge executive director.

“It’s a way to keep things out of the waste stream and hopefully (get them) to a new home.”

Any items remaining at the end of the day must be brought back in.
