Fire destroys building in southwest Airdrie

A home in the southwest Airdrie community of Canals was destroyed by a fire on Monday.

The Airdrie Fire Department was met by heavy smoke and flames coming from a carriage home on the property on Channelside Drive S.W.

Crews knocked down the fire, but the building is considered “a total loss,” officials said.

“Crews were able to limit the spread and prevent more serious damage to neighboring properties. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported,” said Airdrie Fire Chief Mike Pirie in a statement.

Some neighbouring homes sustained some damage.

Two vehicles in the garages were also destroyed.

The Airdrie Fire Department thanked other firefighters from nearby communities such as Calgary, Rocky View County and Crossfield for their assistance with the incident.
