Daytime highs 5 to 13 degrees above average to start the weekend

Temperatures expected to hit the mid-20s. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Wednesday’s peak temperature in Calgary will be very similar to Tuesday’s daytime high – but the day promises to be less exciting in terms of active weather.

An incoming ridge of high pressure will become the main weathermaker across the west, as two low pressure systems (one to the east and one to the west) anchor that ridge and enhance the effects of this stable pattern.

Typical of this type of synoptic setup – these patterns can be difficult to dislodge and will create very calm and warm conditions underneath the high – meaning most of Alberta will experience sunshine and persistently elevated temperatures for a few days.

Daytime highs in southeastern Alberta will sit close to 30 C by the weekend, while highs in Calgary should be as warm as 27 C, or 13 degrees above average.

The anchoring low in the west is expected to break off late Saturday, and when it does another rapid change will occur, including a significant drop in temperatures and the potential for precipitation in southern British Columbia and Alberta by Sunday.

Once again, this change will be short-lived and daytime highs are forecast to reach the low 20s early next week.
