Criminal charges against former 911 operator dropped; fined on FOIP convictions instead

Criminal charges have been dropped against a former Calgary 911 operator who was accused of sharing sensitive police information with gang members.

Criminal charges have been dropped against a former Calgary 911 operator accused of sharing sensitive police information with gang members.

Marian Buonincontri, 58 at the time, was charged with breach of trust, fraudulent use of a computer system and mischief relating to police data.

She instead pleaded guilty to three counts under the Freedom of Information Act.

Police alleged data was pulled from searches related to people involved in organized crime and then given to others also in organized crime.

Buonincontri is now ordered to pay $10,000 for each of the three FOIP convictions.

She had been employed by the city’s 911 services as a call taker.

She was arrested in January 2023 and released, uncharged, as investigation continued.

Charges were laid at a later date and announced by police in January 2024.

Police said at that time her activities were discovered when officers were conducting an unrelated investigation in December 2022.
