Cochrane woman plans to give part of lottery win to charity

A Cochrane woman who won big on a lottery ticket says she plans to give roughly $30,000 to charity.

Mahara Delain won $100,000 on a Lotto 6-49 and Extra ticket she purchased from Madaan’s Country Market in the Alberta town.

“I scanned the ticket in-store two or three times,” she said in a Friday news release. “I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing!”

Delain says she told her family right away and is excited to share part of her prize with them.

“My plan is one-third to charity, one-third to family, and one-third of the prize for myself,” she explained. “It’s just an amazing feeling to have won!”
