Calgary Surge set to bring pro basketball experience to Stampede with Saddledome date

The Calgary Stampede is teaming up with the Surge to bring Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) action to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth this summer.

The Stampede announced Thursday that the Surge will take on the Montreal Alliance July 9 at the Saddledome.

Taking place on BMO Kids’ Day, the event will offer Stampede visitors a chance to experience live pro basketball with a side of Stampede energy, excitement and entertainment.

Game tickets, available for $35 for the upper bowl and $45 for the lower bowl (plus taxes and fees), include Stampede admission for July 9 so that visitors can take in the midway or watch music on the Coca-Cola stage or elsewhere before game time.

“The Calgary Stampede is all about bringing people together through unforgettable experiences,” said Stampede programming director Allison Wright, in a media release. “What better way to do that than by introducing live professional basketball to Stampede Park—in a way that only the Stampede can deliver.”

The Surge have already played in the Saddledome, drawing a CEBL record-setting 12,327 to see them play in 2024. They’re also playing the ‘Dome in August in addition to their Stampede date.

“The reverence we have for the Calgary Stampede and its ability to create community runs deep, so to be partnering this early in our journey is a milestone moment for our company,” said Surge vice-chairman and president Jason Ribeiro.
