Body of missing hiker recovered from Yamnuska

An aerial search of a popular hiking area near Canmore has resulted in the discovery of the body of a missing 45-year-old woman from Calgary.

On the evening of July 2, the hiker was reported missing to Canmore RCMP after not returning following a day trip.  A search effort was postponed until Wednesday morning because of darkness.

Surveying the area from a helicopter, search and rescue crews from Kananaskis Emergency Services located the missing hiker’s body on the east face of Yamnuska on July 3.  It appears the woman had suffered a fall of approximately 120 metres.

The identity of the hiker has not been released.  RCMP continue to investigate the woman’s death but do not suspect foul play.
