TORONTO -- Losses in the energy and health-care sectors weighed on stocks in Toronto in late-morning trading as U.S. stocks also moved lower after being closed Thursday.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 32.16 points at 17,082.74.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 77.69 points at 28,082.04. The S&P 500 index was down 6.79 points at 3,146.84, while the Nasdaq composite was down 18.30 points at 8,686.87.
The Canadian dollar traded for 75.24 cents US compared with an average of 75.27 cents US on Thursday.
The January crude contract was down US$2.34 at US$55.77 per barrel and the January natural gas contract was down 15.7 cents at US$2.34 per mmBTU.
The February gold contract was up $9 at US$1,469.80 an ounce and the March copper contract was down 4.1 cents at US$2.66 a pound.
