Woman, 18, charged in multi-jurisdictional prescription fraud investigation

An 18-year-old woman faces charges in connection with a multi-jurisdictional prescription fraud investigation launched by Ontario Provincial Police in January.

Police alleged the young woman attended two pharmacies in Collingwood between January 20 and 27 with fraudulent prescriptions she claimed to be picking up for others.

"A pharmacist grew suspicious when inconsistencies were noted in the prescriptions, including differing patient names and prescribing doctors," OPP stated.

During her arrest, police say the woman provided a false identity to officers, resulting in additional charges of obstruction and impersonation.

"This arrest was made as part of a much broader investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions in Ontario," OPP noted.

The accused, whose identity was not disclosed, is also charged with fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and two counts of use, deals, acts on forged document.
