Wildland fire rips through Gravenhurst Ont. property

Fire crews in Gravenhurst responded to a wildland fire early Friday evening at a rural property in Barkway.

Officials say a nearby resident and a neighbour noticed the blaze and used farming equipment to slow the fire’s progress through the open field.

It is unclear what type of equipment the neighbours used to stop the flames.

Firefighters from all stations arrived shortly after and were able to bring the blaze under control before it could spread further, advancing toward nearby buildings.

A wildland fire according to officials is any ignition, natural or planned fire, that burns in wildland areas and consumes natural fuels.

No injuries were reported in the midst of this blaze.
