Retiree celebrates becoming instant multi-millionaire with lottery

A great-grandfather from Tiny Township has become an instant multi-millionaire after his weekly routine of purchasing lottery tickets for decades turned into his first big win.

"I always play with my own numbers," shared Walter Kondur after learning he won $2 million in the Ontario 49 April 23 draw.

Kondur said he used one of his grandkid’s birthdays for his winning ticket, and discovered his luck while checking the numbers on his phone.

"I showed my phone to my son, and he thought I’d won a Free Play," he recalled. "I told him to take another look. When he saw that I’d won the top prize, he was shocked. At first, he didn’t believe it, but once it sank in, he was absolutely thrilled."

Kondur purchased his winning ticket at Ultramar On The Run on Country Road 93 in Midland, and plans to buy a new house, truck and boat with his windfall.

He also intends to spread the joy. “What comes to mind right away is how much good you can do with the money. I look forward to helping my kids,” he added.

Ontario 49 has draws every Wednesday and Saturday.
