Police investigate attempted armed robbery in Newmarket

York Regional Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted armed robbery that happened Thursday afternoon in Newmarket.

Police say a suspect entered a store in the area of Davis Drive and George Street around 4:30 p.m. and pointed a firearm at an employee while demanding money.

Officials say the suspect fled the scene east on Davis Drive empty-handed. No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as being a white man in his early 20s, five feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build and blue eyes. He wore a black mask to cover his face, a black t-shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the authorities or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
