Orillia police head back to high school

Orillia police are going back to high school this spring.

Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers will be training at Orillia Secondary School on Monday and Friday, as well as June 2 and 16 at 7 each night.

Local officers along with Community Mobilization Unit (CMU) are participating in the training exercises in cooperation with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB).

Police are advising the public to expect an increased police presence at the school during these events.

Police say there is no public safety risk, however residents are asked to maintain a safe distance away from the school, so they don’t encounter officers who are involved in the training exercise.

The SCDSB and OPP say training exercises such as these helps streamline police response within the schools.
