Funny money and fake gun get Meaford man arrested

A Meaford man has been arrested on several charges including counterfeit currency.

Police on bicycles attempted to stop a man on a bicycle on the sidewalk along Nelson Street West shortly after noon on Saturday. but he took off on his bike.

After a sort distance, he dropped the bicycle and fled on foot. He was eventually located in a wooded area and taken into custody where police discovered the man had an air pistol.

A 34-year-old Meaford man is charged with:

• Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
• Obstructing a peace officer
• Three counts of possessing counterfeit money
• Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
• Two counts of uttering counterfeit money

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
