Fire destroys two residential buildings in Huntsville

A fire ripped through two residential buildings on West Street South in Huntsville on Wed., Oct. 1, 2025.

A devastating fire ripped through two houses on West Street South in Huntsville Wednesday morning, leaving multiple residents displaced and causing extensive damage.

Officials say over 40 firefighters from multiple stations battled the intense flames for more than eight hours to bring the fire under control.

“Residents were evacuating, and firefighters assisted two individuals to safety,” officials say.

Despite their efforts, a triplex and a duplex were destroyed. Victim Services Muskoka is providing support and temporary accommodations to those affected.

No injuries were reported.

The fire investigation determined the blaze originated outside, but the exact cause remains unknown because of the extensive damage and “multiple possible ignition sources.”

Fire officials urge residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of similar fires, such as keeping combustible materials away from exterior walls and decks.

“Items such as discarded smoking materials, firewood, garbage, recycling, or improperly used extension cords can all present ignition hazards when placed too close to the home,” officials state.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department praised the responding agencies and community partners for their efforts, including the Huntsville Legion and neighbours who provided food, water, and coffee to firefighters at the scene.
