Criminal charges laid after reports of man pointing rifle at teens from balcony

Police in Innisfil arrested a 66-year-old man accused of pointing a firearm at a group of teenagers early Tuesday evening.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly told police they heard gun shots and saw a man pointing a rifle at the youths from a balcony believed to be his residence.

Police called in additional officers who set up a perimeter around the building. Authorities say the man surrendered a short time later without incident.

Officers searched the residence confirming no one else was inside, and after obtaining a warrant, said they recovered a high velocity 22-calibre pellet rifle, plus ammunition.

No injuries were reported.

The accused faces several charges, including four counts of assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, weapon, ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unauthorized possession of a firearm. He was held in custody overnight and later released following a bail hearing.
