Aurora man wins more than $75K with lottery after playing for 3 decades

After more than 30 years of playing the lottery, Martin Britton has finally hit it big, winning a Lotto 6/49 second prize worth $75,236 in the Nov. 2, 2024, draw.

The Aurora retiree, a longtime fan of Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max, said he plays a few times a month using the quick pick feature. But he never expected to see his numbers come up.

“I was at home when I scanned my Lotto 6/49 ticket using the OLG app,” Britton recalled while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I checked it again and again, thinking my mind was playing tricks on me. I thought to myself, ‘This is insane,’ and was left stunned.”

Until now, he’s kept the news to himself.

“I want to surprise everyone once I have the cheque in hand,” he said with a smile. “There’s no better feeling than this. Life is good, in fact, it’s amazing.”

Britton plans to use his winnings to travel to Europe and will save the rest for a rainy day.

Lotto 6/49 offers two multi-million dollar jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday for $3 per play.

Britton’s winning ticket was purchased at Vos’ Your Independent Grocer on Scugog Street in Port Perry.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is Wednesday with an estimated $12 million jackpot up for grabs.
