Another youth charged in alleged autobody shop arsons

Police charged another youth in an ongoing investigation into what investigators believe were targeted arsons at autobody shops in York Region.

York Regional police say two fires were intentionally set at autobody shops in Aurora and Newmarket in February. The fires were allegedly set three days apart. Neither building was occupied.

Last month, investigators said they identified and arrested five people, including three adults and two boys, ages 13 and 15, who all face charges in the case.

On Friday, police revealed a 17-year-old from Toronto had also been identified and charged with arson, break and enter and disguise with intent in connection with the investigation.

They are still looking for a 37-year-old man from Toronto, who remains at large. He faces charges of arson and obstructing a peace officer.

Police urge anyone with information on the alleged arsons that happened in the area of George Street and Davis Drive in Newmarket on Feb. 6 and in the area of Edward Street and Metcalfe Street in Aurora on Feb. 9 to contact the authorities.
