Ferrari might not like seeing its cars wrapped in custom vinyls and decorated with prancing cat badges, but apparently Nissan has no such issues.
Last week Ferrari sent Canadian electronic DJ and music producer Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) a cease and desist letter regarding his custom Nyan Cat wrapped Ferrari 458 Italia dubbed the 'Purrari'. Nissan seems to have a better sense of humour and quickly offered the musician a replacement in the form of a similarly wrapped custom Nissan GT-R.
The Japanese automaker reached out to Deadmau5 via twitter saying, “Hey @deadmau5, heard what happened to your car. Good news? We found a replacement, ready right meow. #GTR”
They even provided a photoshop of what the wrapped Nissan would look like complete with a little badge below the GT-R logo with the word "Spec" and Deadmau5's logo.
Deadmau5 created the Purrari earlier this year by wrapping his white Ferrari 458 Italia in the colourful Nyan Cat vinyls, adding custom floor mats as well as prancing cat and “purrari” badges to the rear.
It quickly became a pop culture sensation and the Canadian musician even took Toronto mayor Rob Ford for a coffee run in the car.
However, Ferrari was not amused by the custom emblems and told Deadmau5 to have them removed. Deadmau5 complied with the warning but took to Twitter to voice his displeasure over the matter.
“I wonder if the jacka** lawyer at @FerrariUSA who sent us a “cease and desist” letter over the purrari is un-butthurt now that I unwrapped,” he tweeted, adding that it was mostly the custom floor mats and purrari badges that caused the fuss.
“Whatever. It’s just a normal a** 458 now. All good,” tweeted Deadmau5 after returning the car to its original vanilla-white. He was planning to sell the Ferrari since he purchased a new McLaren 650s Spider.
Now thanks to Nissan he may now have found an even better replacement and a way to get back at Ferrari to boot.
