General Motors is expanding its Denali luxury truck trim offerings by bringing the badge to its midsize GMC Canyon pickup, the automaker revealed ahead of the truck’s Los Angeles Auto Show debut.

The Canyon Denali – which will go on sale late 2016 – will come in a crew cab body style only, and will also feature a bolder, Denali-exclusive grille and 20-inch aluminum wheels. Many pieces of tech optional on the base Canyon will come standard on Denali, and interior trim will be Denali-specific, too, with leather heated-and-cooled seats standard.

The engine options available on the luxury midsize truck will not be exclusive, however, and will include the 3.6-litre V6 and 2.8-litre Duramax turbodiesel available on standard Canyons. Both come paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. GM will also be unveiling the full-size GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate at the LA show, the new top-trim version of its Sierra Denali line.

This version of the truck – which, like the Canyon Denali, will only come in crew cab bodies – features massive 22-inch wheels, chrome tow hooks, and “tri-mode” power steps that automatically extend outward ahead of the rear tire to offer access to the forward part of the bed. The Sierra Denali Ultimate will get the 5.3-liter V8 standard, with the 6.2-litre V8 optional.
