Tesla may be the first name in upscale electric cars right now, but Fisker is a brand that's out to challenge that dominance with what could be a game-changing model called the Emotion.

The Fisker EMotion will be officially unveiled on August 17, but we already know it will offer a class-leading range on a single full battery charge of more than 400 miles. As well as the class-leading range, it's also said that the Emotion will be capable of charging in as little as nine minutes. This is down to what Fisker is describing as its 'state of the art' battery chemistry with the world's highest energy density. Of course, the car will also boast a certain level of autonomy and connection to its environment, which is now seemingly ubiquitous as the forerunner to true driverless models in the future.

We're not sure yet just how much autonomy and connectivity the Fisker EMotion will actually have, but as this is an EV and therefore doesn't need a grille, it will feature a Lidar sensor hidden in its front central darkened area that could offer fairly high levels of autonomy.

The innovation goes further than the powertrain and autonomy though, as Fisker is already claiming it has designed the interior of what is an overtly sporty-looking model to also deliver luxury sedan levels of interior space and comfort.

This will be the first production model from Fisker, but deep pockets are likely to be required to own one as it's going to be an expensive low-volume model with a carbon fiber and aluminum structure, as well as those revolutionary batteries stored low in its floor.

The batteries powering the EMotion have been developed by Fisker Nanotech, which is Fisker Inc.'s sister company and battery division. It's being claimed the cutting-edge graphene technology will deliver longer range, faster charging times and extended battery life, which is the recipe for success all manufacturers of EVs are striving to perfect.
