Pedestrian hit by truck in hospital with life-threatening injuries: New Glasgow police

Police in New Glasgow, N.S., say a man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a truck in a crosswalk Monday afternoon.

New Glasgow Regional Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the collision at the intersection of Provost Street and MacLean Street around 1:30 p.m.

Police say a Dodge truck travelling southbound on Provost Street hit a pedestrian while making a left turn onto MacLean Street.

The pedestrian, a 71-year-old man, was in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

The driver of the truck, a 50-year-old-man, was not injured.

He has been charged with:

• failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk
• driving without insurance
• displaying number plates issued for another vehicle
• operating an unregistered vehicle

Police say they continue to investigate.
