Man charged with impaired driving after cocaine seized from vehicle: N.S. RCMP

A man is facing impaired driving and drug charges after police found cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Nova Scotia’s Digby County last week.

An RCMP officer spotted a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 101 in Brighton, N.S., around 10:30 p.m. on March 14.

Police said the officer pulled the vehicle over and suspected the driver was impaired. He allegedly failed a roadside sobriety test and was arrested.

The RCMP took the man to the Digby detachment, where a drug recognition expert evaluated the driver. Police said the expert determined the driver was impaired.

Jacon Netherton, 38, of Mount Uniacke, N.S., was charged with impaired operation by drug. He was released from custody and ordered to appear in Digby provincial court on May 12.

After his arrest, police searched his vehicle and seized:

• more than 90 grams of cocaine
• more than 300 prescription pills, pre-packaged in baggies
• unstamped cigarettes
• cellphones

Netherton was arrested again on Wednesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with a court order.

Netherton was due to appear in court on those charges Thursday.
