Man, 23, charged with arson in connection with Yarmouth apartment fire: N.S. RCMP

A 23-year-old man has been charged with several offences, including arson, following a fire in Yarmouth, N.S., last summer.

Yarmouth Town RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a fire at an apartment complex on Kirk Street just after midnight on Aug. 28, 2024.

Residents evacuated the building and no one was injured.

The fire was contained to one unit but the rest of the building sustained significant damage.

Police say they worked with the Nova Scotia Office of the Fire Marshal and determined the fire was intentionally set.

Jacob Tunnillie of Yarmouth was arrested on Sunday in connection with the investigation.

He has been charged with:

• arson – disregard for human life
• mischief over $5,000
• fail to comply with probation order
• fail to comply with release order

Tunnillie appeared in Yarmouth provincial court on Monday and has been remanded into custody.
