Halifax rapper Quake Matthews declares it’s officially Patio Season with new album

Halifax rapper Quake Matthews’s new album “Patio Season” comes out this week.

Halifax hip hop artist Quake Matthews is set to release his new album Patio Season this week.

“I’m talking about everything summer encompasses—from relationships to parties to experiences to vibes,” said Quake in an interview with CTV’s Katie Kelly. “I want this to be the soundtrack to everybody’s summer.”

It’s a project he never actually planned to make.

“An album was not in my strategy for the year at all,” said Quake. “I was just going to drop singles. Then I made one or two and that spiraled into 13.”

Patio Season is packed with upbeat, nostalgic tracks.

“There are hints that are reminiscent of high school days or the early 2000s scattered throughout,” said Quake.

While the album is full of fun and energy, Quake hopes it also hits a lasting note with listeners.

“I hope they have a good time to it, and I hope it stamps a moment in time,” said Quake. “Like, this song reminds me of what we did this summer—even years from now looking back.”

Patio Season will be available on all streaming platforms June 12.
