Cape Breton man arrested for impaired driving after fatal collision

One man is dead and another has been arrested for impaired driving after two vehicles collided in Cape Breton over the weekend.

Police and emergency crews responded to the collision on Highway 105 in Groves Point, N.S., around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The RCMP says a sedan and Harley Davidson motorcycle collided and the car then fled the area.

The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the 40-year-old Bras D’Or man died in hospital the next day.

Officers found the car involved in the collision on Brady Drive in Groves Point and arrested the driver, who they say appeared to be impaired.

The 42-year-old Sydney Mines man was taken to the North Sydney RCMP detachment, where police say he provided breath samples that registered 90mg%.

The man was released and is due to appear in Sydney provincial court at a later date. Police say criminal charges are expected in the case.

The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
