Sun followed by showers moving through the final full week of April in Maritimes

Chief meteorologist Kalin Mitchell shares the Maritime weather forecast for April 21.

It’s a pleasant start to the last full week of April as the strong winds of Sunday have diminished and an area of high pressure provided a mainly sunny Monday.

A low-pressure system moving from Ontario into Quebec will sweep a weather front into the Maritimes on Tuesday. A cloudier day is expected with showers develop west-to-east across the region morning through afternoon. Flurries may be mixed with the showers in northern New Brunswick.

Much like the past weekend, most of the showers are expected to be light with rainfall amounts of only a few millimetres. The wet weather may become steadier in the area from Yarmouth to Bridgewater between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday. That could lead to higher rainfall amounts of 10-to-15 mm in that area.

A southerly wind with gusts of between 20 and 40 km/h will accompany the intermittent showers. It will be a touch cool with daytime highs in the mid-to-high single digits.

A trough of low pressure will linger over the Maritimes on Wednesday. There will be partly cloudy conditions with spotty showers in the region and temperatures will climb a few degrees.

There will be daytime highs of 8-to-14 C except 5-to-8 C for the Acadian Peninsula, Prince Edward Island, the North Shore of Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton.

With high pressure building from the west, generally fair weather is expected on Thursday and Friday of this week.

The next round of more inclement weather is lined up for Saturday. A low-pressure system originating on the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains near Colorado is projected to move through the U.S. northeast and into the Maritimes. That would give us a rainy start to the upcoming weekend.
