TORONTO - Veteran rockers April Wine will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame this spring.
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced Monday that April Wine will receive the honour on April 18 during the 2010 Juno Awards in St. John's, N.L.
In 1969, vocalist-guitarist Myles Goodwyn, guitarist David Henman, drummer Ritchie Henman and bassist Jimmy Henman formed April Wine in Halifax.
They released their debut album in 1971 and in the ensuing years have sold seven million albums worldwide, been a popular touring act, and been nominated for 11 Junos.
In 1976, April Wine became the first Canadian band to achieve platinum advance sales for the album "The Whole World's Goin' Crazy," and the resulting tour was the first to gross $1 million.
April Wine recorded such hits as "You Could Have Been a Lady," "Weeping Widow," "Lady Run, Lady Hide," and "Tonight is a Wonderful Time to Fall in Love."
Their 1977 hit, "You Won't Dance With Me," became their all-time best-selling Canadian single.
They've recorded 16 albums.
