A university student in Ohio has won a stalking order against her parents, claiming that they tracked every detail of her life and went as far as installing monitoring software on her computer and phone.

Theatre student Aubrey Ireland, 21, filed the order against her parents in September, accusing them of repeated attempts to control and monitor her life. An Ohio judge has ordered Julie and David Ireland to stay at least 500 feet away from their only child.

The University of Cincinnati student said her parents often accused her of drug use, promiscuity and mental illness. They would frequently drive hundreds of miles from their Kansas home to visit her unannounced, reports The Cincinnati Enquirer.

Despite her insistence that their accusations were false, her parents persisted, she said.

The pair even told her school that she had mental issues that would require them to go to court to have her treated.

According to Ireland, her parents felt that because they were paying for her schooling, they had a right to know all the details of her life.

“They basically thought that because they were paying for my college tuition and living expenses that they could tell me what to do, who to hang out with and, you know, basically control all of my daily life,” she told ABC News.

The couple even had monitoring software installed on her laptop and cellphone so they could track her every movement, she said.

“I would have to get on Skype all the time and show them that I was in my dorm room or like, there were nights I had to leave my Skype on all night… and my mom would watch me basically sleep,” said Ireland.

The university eventually stepped in and hired security guards to keep Ireland’s parents away from her school performances. When they stopped paying her tuition, the school gave her a full scholarship to complete her final year.

Judge Jody Luebbers asked Ireland and her parents to work out a settlement before the case started.

Ireland’s parents asked that she refund to them the $66,000 they’d spent on her tuition.

Ireland claims that her parents were diagnosed with co-dependency disorder. She said she never wanted this to happen and that launching the stalking order against them was a last resort.

Her parents, however, say their daughter is lying and being a very good actress. They say she’s been catered to for her entire life.

Ireland’s parents must not have any contact with her until at least Sept. 23, 2013.
