A man who simply stood for hours at the centre of Taksim Square quickly became a symbol Monday for the ongoing protests in Turkey, with the hashtag “standingman” trending on social media.
As clashes between police and protesters continued into Monday night, one man reportedly stood silently in the square for nearly six hours.
The man was reportedly searched and question by police and quickly released, before ending his peaceful protest.
