Authorities released the names of the victims of a deadly shooting at a movie theatre in Aurora, Colo. on Saturday.

In total, eight men, three women and a young girl were killed during the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises,” shortly after midnight Friday.

The youngest victim, Veronica Moser-Sullivan, was just sixyears old. Gordon Cowden, the eldest victim, was 51. All the victims died from gunshot wounds, said the Arapahoe County coroner’s office.

An additional 58 people were injured in the ruthless gunfire.

As the names of the victims were released, personal details about them began to surface.

Many of the victims were men who died while protecting their loved ones.

Matt McQuinn, Alexander Teves and Jonathan Blunk were all reported to have died in an effort to shield their girlfriends from the gunfire.

Blunk, a soldier, reportedly threw his girlfriend to the ground and told her to stay down.

"Even though he saved me and gave me the opportunity to live, he would have done it for anyone that day,” said Blunk’s girlfriend Jensen Young.

The family of John Larimer was notified of their son’s death by naval officers. Neighbours of the 27-year-old sailor from Illinois expressed their deep sorrow for the Larimer family.

“As a mother it breaks my heart. I can't imagine and this family especially-- they're a nice family,” said one neighbour.

Sgt. Jesse Childress, 29, was also a member of the military. Childress was a cyber-systems operator with the U.S. Air Force.

Friends and family describe 19-year-old Alexander Boik as an avid movie fan and comic book collector.

Twenty-seven-year-old Alex Sullivan was also a fan of comics. He was attending the midnight premiere of the new Batman film to celebrate his birthday. Sullivan was so excited to see the new film that he even tweeted about it.

"Oh man one hour to the movie.. and it’s gonna be the best birthday ever,"  Sullivan tweeted.

Sullivanwas to have celebrated his one-year wedding anniversaryon Sunday.

Of the women who died in Friday’s attack, Rebecca Wingo leaves behind two children.

Twenty-three-year-old victim Micayla Medek was described by friends and family as a free spirit. Her family waited nearly 19 hours before receiving confirmation that she had died.

And aspiring sports broadcastor Jessica Ghawi, 24, died in Friday’s attackafter escaping another public shooting in Toronto only a few weeks earlier.

Ghawi had been at the Eaton Centre on June 2, when gunfire suddenly erupted in the mall food court.

Ghawi blogged about narrowly missing the deadly mall shootingon June 5.

“Who would go into a mall full of thousands of innocent people and open fire? Is this really the world we live in?” she wrote.

University of Colorado-Denver student James Holmes was arrested in connection withthe Colorado shooting.

The 24-year-old was arrested minutes after the shooting.
