POLKTON, N.C. -- A kitchen worker at a North Carolina prison is being charged with helping a convicted murderer escape.
The state Department of Public Safety said Sunday that 33-year-old Kendra Lynette Miller faces multiple charges connected to Saturday's escape. Twenty-nine-year-old Kristopher McNeil of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was serving a 14-year sentence for second-degree murder.
Prison officials say McNeil is believed to have scaled the fence at the minimum-security unit of Brown Creek Correctional Institution, about 45 miles east of Charlotte. He was convicted in 2009 and was scheduled for release in 2018.
Polkton police charged Miller with harbouring a fugitive and aiding and abetting a fugitive. She's also charged with having sex with an inmate and providing a cellphone. An Anson County Jail official said she did not have a lawyer.
