A tour guide in Namibia recently helped a stranded young dolphin find its way back to the ocean, by carrying the beached animal out into the waves.

Naude Dreyer, a guide with Pelican Point Kayaking in Namibia, says he found the juvenile Benguela dolphin on the shore, and decided to give it a shot at survival by returning it to the water. The rescue was captured on video and posted to the Pelican Point Kayaking Facebook page.

Dreyer said in the Facebook post that he's not sure how the dolphin ended up on the beach, and he "was not very hopeful" about its chances for survival.

"But as soon as he got into the water and realized where he was he took off like a bullet," Dreyer wrote in the post.

The video shows the small dolphin wagging its tail a few times after Dreyer sets it down in the water, before launching out into the waves.

Dreyer added that he plans to check the area again later, "just to make sure he hasn't returned again."

The Benguela dolphin, also called the Heaviside's dolphin, is found only off the western coast of Namibia and South Africa, at the southwestern edge of the African continent.
