Manitobans wanting to show support to neighbours down south stood in solidarity on Sunday afternoon. “We are here today because (of) what happens to our brothers and sisters in Minneapolis,” said Susan Rodriguez, a member of Migrante Manitoba on Sunday. “The tremors of injustice cross every border. Make no mistake, those tremors are already here.” The organization advocates for the rights and welfare of migrants. Roughly 100 people gathered outside of Winnipeg’s U.S. consulate near Portage Avenue and Main Street. Rodriguez and others were gathered to protest recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement demonstrations in Minneapolis where two people were killed. “We live in a moment of open declared war on migrants,” Rodriguez said. “South of the border, that war has a uniform and badge.” Protestors brought many signs and voiced their discontent towards ICE and their presence in Minnesota.
