EDMONTON - The campaign for Alberta's April 23rd election has just begun and already some of the candidates have mud stains.

Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith is painting Conservative Premier Alison Redford as a globe-trotting bureaucrat who doesn't even like Alberta.

She said yesterday that Redford's dislike of her home province has been made clear by her plans to see Alberta change with the times.

Redford shot back that Smith's charge was almost too ridiculous to warrant a response -- but added that she loves Alberta and knows of no better place to live.

The premier says Alberta is changing whether Smith likes it or not because of all the people flocking to the province to work in the energy industry.

Smith says the only change Alberta needs is to cut red tape that's slowing private enterprise.

NDP Leader Brian Mason, meanwhile, says it's a bad sign if the campaign debate has already sunk to the level of who loves Alberta more.
