An investigation is underway after human remains were found in Alta Lake in Whistler, B.C. Local RCMP say they were notified of the discovery near the popular Rainbow Park just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Police provided very few details about the incident in a statement Tuesday. They said Whistler Fire Services, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service and the Whistler Sailing Association helped recover the body. “Details of the individual located will not be released pending an investigation by the B.C. Coroners Service,” Sea to Sky RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Katrina Boehmer said, in the statement. “We recognize that several individuals may have witnessed this incident, and we want them to know they are welcome to contact our RCMP Victim Services team if they have been affected in any way and feel they would benefit from support.” When CTV News asked for more information about the circumstances around the death, Boehmer said it is still under investigation but does not appear suspicious. Police say there is no risk to public safety. “We continue to urge individuals to enjoy activities in and around the water responsibly, including wearing a PFD or life jacket and knowing water and weather conditions,” Boehmer wrote.
