NEW YORK - Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for 10 games in the wake of his game misconduct for jostling an official in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final against Montreal.

The NHL said the suspension was automatic under category 2 of Rule 40.3, titled Physical Abuse of Officials.

The league says Carcillo, in its words, "physically applied force to Linesman Scott Driscoll while being escorted to the penalty box."

The incident came 5:51 into Thursday's game after a fight between Derek Dorsett of the Rangers and Brandon Prust of the Canadiens. Carcillo had been penalized for charging Prust on the play.

The Rangers were upset at Prust, who earlier escaped punishment when he laid out Derek Stepan with a blindside hit.

Prust is scheduled to have a hearing with the league on Friday.
