MONTREAL -- Wheelchair racing star Chantal Petitclerc will be Canada's chef de mission at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 44-year-old from Montreal is one of Canada's most decorated athletes of all time, holding world records over three different wheelchair distances.

She raced to 21 Paralympic medals, including 14 gold.

Petitclerc was Canada's chef at the Commonwealth Games this summer in Glasgow, becoming the first Paralympic athlete to hold the position in a multi-sport Games.

The chef de mission is the team leader and spokesman for Canadian athletes at the Games.
