He may no longer be a Hab, but Nashville Predators defenceman P.K. Subban was received with open arms when he returned Thursday to face his old teammates in Montreal -- a warm welcome that drove him to tears.

Before the puck dropped, a video montage of Subban’s highlights with the Montreal Canadiens was played in the arena. The reel included video of Subban clowning around with teammates, meeting fans and, of course, plenty of goals.

The video ended with a welcome message -- “Bon retour, P.K.!” -- and a standing ovation from the crowd with chants of “P.K.! P.K.!”

It was a touching moment for the hockey star, who broke into tears amid the rousing applause.

Subban became a majorly popular figure on the Habs since he joined the team in 2009. He was well known for his powerful performances and, off the ice, for his charitable works. He was awarded a medal for meritorious service Wednesday by Governor General David Johnston for his efforts to raise $10 million for the Montreal Children's Hospital.

Subban left the Canadiens last year and moved stateside to join the Predators. Thursday marked his first game back in Montreal’s Bell Centre.
