CORNER BROOK, N.L. -- The Special Olympics Canada Winter Games will be held in Newfoundland in 2016.

Tourism Minister Derrick Dalley says the games in Corner Brook will mark the first time the province has played host to the event.

About 1,000 athletes and coaches are expected to take part.

Seven sports will be featured, including curling, speed skating, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, downhill skiing and Nordic skiing.
